Please take the next 5 minutes and watch this great video that talks about the high price of materialism. America’s culture of consumerism and materialism is undermining our well-being. It also provides solutions that you can use to better your well-being.
I personally agree with a lot of what this video talks about. I have found (or realized) over the years that I don’t need “things” to make me happy. When I was younger, I was under the impression the more things I had, the happier I would be because “I made it”. I would be successful. This lead me to into credit card debt and pushed me further away from what I really valued – financial independence.
I realized that things didn’t make me happy long term. Yes, they gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside for a short time, but that feeling subsided faster and faster as I continued down the path. It made me realize that things aren’t the solution, time with friends and family is.
I value the time I get to spend with my family and friends. There is nothing better than sitting outside on a cool night with loved ones just talking. To me, that is priceless.
